This week, the topic of the chapter 4 that our lecturer have teached is "Mind Your Grammar". After this chapter, I able to get a clear picture of the grammar usage while writing and also able to understand the grammar rules.     "I don't judge people based on race, creed, colour or gender.             I judge people based on spelling, grammar, punctuation and sentence structure." Subject Verb Agreement Basic rule, A singular subject  takes a singular verb , a plural subject takes a plural verb. A subject will come before a phrase beginning with  of . This is a key rule for understanding subjects. The word  of  is the culprit in many, perhaps most, subject-verb mistakes. Two singular subjects connected by  or, either/or,  or  neither/nor  require a singular verb. The verb in an  or, either/or,  or  neither/nor  sentence agrees with the noun or pronoun closest to it. English Writing Class Chapter 3 ( Week4 )

This week I learned 4 types of writing at English Writing Class which is Ms Thinessha teached. The 4 types of writing is included expository, description, persuasive and narrative. Expository writing is a type of writing that is used to explain, describe, give information, or inform.  The text is organized around one topic and developed according to a pattern or combination of patterns.  The writer of an expository text cannot assume that the reader or listener has prior knowledge or prior understanding of the topic that is being discussed.  Since clarity requires strong organization, one of the most important mechanisms to improve skills in exposition is to improve the organization of the text.  The patterns shown below are frequently used to create an expository essay.  Additionally, more than one pattern may be used within an expository essay. The primary purpose of descriptive writing is to describe a person, place or thing in such a way that a picture is formed in the read

This third week, I learned chapter 2 which audience and purpose. Possibly the two most important things a writer must consider are audience and purpose.   Communication can’t happen without an other and it is useless without a general or specific agenda.  For a writer, it just makes good sense to know who are directing work toward and what want work to accomplish.  And it’s equally important that reader feels a part of intended audience and that understands what want work to say.  In this sense, audience and purpose work in two directions. A writer’s audience will influence his purpose, while purpose will influence which audience the writer chooses to address. As a reader and as a writer, the first time you approach a text it is important to think about purpose and audience. We must always think : Why am I writing this? (purpose) Who am I writing this for? (audience) So what sort of writing will suit this purpose? (form)  So what style do I need to write in?  Definition of
